New Zealand Poppy Places Trust

New Zealand Poppy Places Trust

Throughout New Zealand there are numerous places named after ordinary New Zealanders who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Wellington

If left to history, the significance behind these place names may disappear from our collective consciousness.

Our aim is to provide a "place" where these stories can be captured and forever stored.

We encourage local communities to:

- Identify places which have a link to our military involvement in a conflict or operational service overseas.

- Place a permanent poppy on street names, buildings and memorials, marking them as a place of remembrance.

- Research and record the significance behind these places on the www.poppyplaces.nz website

Visit our website to learn more about how you can participate.

Launch  16 December 2014

Poppy Places Trust was launched at Upper Hutt on Remembrance Day, 11 November 2014.

Signs for Gallipoli Rd, Messines Ave and a "much less understood" Oxford Crescent were unveiled by RSA vice-president Bob 'Bukit' Hill. Oxford Crescent was named after a type of military aircraft used in the training of NZ aircrews in WW2.

"I am especially pleased there are (Oxford Crescent) school children here today because everything we are doing is about children and their future lives" said Trust chariman Terry McBeth.
