Predator Free Okere Falls

The story so far….

The tranquil area of Okere holds significant ecological and cultural values which are worth protecting and restoring. It’s home to many native flora and fauna, some of which are critically endangered. The introduction of pest predators have dwindled their numbers significantly over the past centuries.

We have been busy setting a few chew cards around the area to gain a better picture of the affected areas, the results came in positive, for rats, mice, and possums, in almost everywhere we placed them...... eeeekkkkk!!! It’s pretty clear that there are a substantial number pests running around freely.

We want to get rid of the pests to give our native birds a fighting chance!!

Having been very busy behind the scenes gaining funding from Kiwibank and The RLC this project has officially been kick started.

Let’s bring the birds back and make them loud again!

A few local residents have already had a lot of luck catching big rats in their automatic traps, and our plan is to get traps out in to every corner of Okere Falls to catch these pesky pests.

We have already had a LOT of people and local businesses very keen to see this project fly! So it’s time to put our words into actions, money where our mouth is, and make a Predator Free Okere Falls.
