Queenstown Trails Trust

Striving to build a world-class network of trails in Queenstown, connecting our communities and inspiring adventures.

Otago

The Queenstown Trails Trust has a vision for a happier, healthier and cleaner Queenstown, all because more people have the opportunity to walk and cycle. We want to inspire adventures and connect communities and visitors by foot and by bike. We want people of all ages and abilities to utilise our network of trails safely, easily and enjoyably around the Wakatipu.

We do this by creating and maintaining a world-class trail network. The Queenstown trails will connect our communities to business centres, schools, shops and the wider recreational trail network. We aim to encouraging high levels of participation, easing traffic congestion and inspire a healthy lifestyle, whilst enabling residents and visitors to enjoy a diversity of experiences that showcase our magnificent environment.

Our major focus for the next decade will be on commuter trails and connecting our communities, but as the trail network expands, the available funds for maintaining a world-class network also needs to increase. If everyone who uses the trails gave as little as $20 per year we’d be safeguarding the future of the trails. Help us achieve our vision and support us today by becoming a ‘Friend of the Trust’.

More about us

The evolution of the Queenstown Trails Trust has been a realisation of a ten year vision, combined with the tenacity and passion of many individuals and organisation. The Trust was established in 2002 to assess interest for a network of Queenstown recreational trails. The next decade was spent working with key partners, the community, local and national government to establish The Queenstown Trail, proudly one of Nga Haerenga - The New Zealand Cycle Trail.

The role of the Trust is to facilitate the expansion and enhancement the trail network, protect future opportunities for access, increase use of the trails by residents and visitors, build the network’s national and international reputation and develop sustainable funding strategies for ongoing trail maintenance and improvements.
