Salisbury School is the only NZ special residential (boarding) school for female students who've failed in their previous mainstream schools
Nelson / Tasman
The Minister of Education Hon Hekia Parata commenced consultation on her proposal to close Salisbury School in Nelson in mid-2016, but left parliament before making her final decision. The decision now lies with the new minister Hon Nikki Kaye.
The school has been told that we will be open until the end of this school year, at least. Beyond that depends on Nikki Kaye's decision on our future.
This year the school board made a complaint to the Human Rights Commission and will take the issue further legally, if the Minister decides to close Salisbury - the only residential special school for girls in this country.
This national boarding school is fundraising to help pay the legal costs required to keep Salisbury open.
Empowering through support to succeed.
