  • 2016 Appeal for Savong's School Cambodia

      6 May 2016

2016 and April new year in Cambodia has seen the hottest sustained April/May period in living memory with farms facing real drought. By some measures Cambodia is the one of the least resilient nations in the world when it comes to natural disasters.

In the face of this Savong's School is going well but I need help with fundraising to meet the needs of teachers salaries. We have 8 committed teachers who have recently been through workshops in teaching skills.

Like to help sponsor a teacher? $US 150per month.

This photo was taken two years ago when I was last in Cambodia for the school prize-giving. A special moment this one, because I knew specifically the background story for this student, Kimsan who is receiving the certificate from Savong. Two years later and Kimsan is studying at University and well on the way to a degree.

  • Win/Win in Bakong

      17 August 2015

One of the arrangements at Savong's School has been the award of university scholarships to top local students from Bakong - and this provides a laptop, 4 years of university fees as well as transport to Siem Reap each day and a basic living allowance. In return, these students teach at the school in the mornings and thereby put something straight back into their community.

Here's a short video I put together about the scholarships and why we do it.

Savong was still at high school when he started a language school under his father's house in Siem Reap. His dream was to build a school in the countryside.

    Here's a photo from 2004.
