  Wellington Prevention Health Education Awareness

Wellington Rape Crisis, Wellington Sexual Abuse HELP Foundation, and WellStop founded the Sexual Abuse Prevention Network (SAPN) on a joint commitment to the prevention of sexual violence from a community development perspective, focusing specifically on education and preventative strategies for youth that promote healthy sexuality. At SAPN, we believe that education and prevention is important in keeping our family, friends, whānau, and the whole community safe.

SAPN runs innovative programmes with a diverse range of groups to support social, behavioural and cultural change to prevent sexual harm. From high schools to corporates, community organisations and social services, young people with disabilities, alternative education, bars and nightclubs, we create workshops tailored to the issues faced by each group that encourage open dialogues about sexual violence and teach strategies and skills to prevent it. Our primary objective is to coordinate and support effective primary prevention initiatives alongside complementary community groups, agencies, and networks on a local and national level.

Thank you for your support - it is vital to keeping our services available in the community.

We baked cupcakes and played a fun game involving throwing 'condoms in a box' as part of Victoria University of Wellington Student Association's Sex Week, and decided to raise funds for SAPN in the process. Sexual abuse in tech is a real problem, which is why we got involved in this cause. “Even with a heightened awareness of such issues, spurred by the #MeToo movement, one-third of women in tech say they have received or witnessed unwanted physical contact in the last year, according to a recent survey by FTI Consulting and Mine the Gap. Nearly half experienced or witnessed harassment or assault in the last 5 years. Those figures for the tech industry were worse than in other industries represented in the survey, including notoriously male-dominated fields like energy and finance.” - https://www.axios.com/tech-sexual-harassment-women-silicon-valley-1fa55b9c-2997-49cc-a869-d3cb7334a543.html Though we couldn't raise much, we love what SAPN does and are glad we could help raise awareness for the organisation through our fundraising.
