Shakti Community Council Inc.

Shakti's mission is to support migrant and refugee women, youth, and families in living empowered and safe lives free from all forms of violence. We endeavour to help our communities overcome the barriers that come with migration and to eliminate intergenerational forms of cultural oppression. Founded by and for ethnic women, Shakti is dedicated to promoting and protecting human rights and advocating for social change.

Shakti's services include crisis intervention, emergency pick-up, counselling, legal advocacy, and refuge accomodation for survivors of family violence and their children. Every year, Shakti engages with thousands of women, including individuals of Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Malay, Cambodian, Korean, Indian, Fiji Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Iranian, Iraqi, and Nigerian origin. We will continue to advocate for New Zealand's growing migrant and refugee community.
