The Halfmoon Bay Habitat Restoration Project is SIRCET's main project. It's about creating an open sanctuary in our extended backyard so that native wildlife can thrive. This pest management project extends from the township of Halfmoon Bay to Ackers Point. Volunteers are the backbone of this project, trapping for animal pests, monitoring birds and re-vegetation work.
In the past ten years, SIRCET has trapped thousands of rats, possums and feral cats in the project area. Kiwi, kaka, kereru, tui and other native bird species numbers are on the increase.

The Stewart Island/Rakiura Community Environment Trust is a non-profit organisation formed in 2003 by Stewart Islanders enthusiastic about protecting and enhancing the environment and community of Stewart Island.

SIRCET is getting ready to celebrate! in March we will have been in operation for ten years, or as we like to think of it, 10,221 dead rats later. We are holding an event on the 9 March to celebrate and thank all our sponsors, supporters and volunteers
