St John Station Appeal - Mercury Bay South

Our new St John Ambulance Station in Mercury Bay South has been approved by TCDC and the building process is out to tender. The new address will be 43 Pa Rd, Hahei where 635sqm has been allocated to our ambulance station.

The area serviced by the St John Ambulance, Mercury Bay South will include Cooks Beach, Front Beach, Hahei and Hot Water Beach and surrounding rural areas.

Stage 1: is the garage to house either a First Response Vehicle or a standard St John Ambulance. This garage will also have living quarters to house a duty officer on call during peak season.

The new ambulance station is required in order to meet the needs of the growing community and provide the emergency medical service that St John strives for.

With the ever increasing numbers of people moving to Mercury Bay South as well as domestic and international tourists visiting our area it is integral to create and maintain an infrastructure that supports our communities and village as well being efficient in times of need. The Peak Population Report from Qrious for TCDC states that the average number of people per household in Hahei in peak season was 10.02. Peak season being (22 December – 9 January 2017)

Due to our geographic location the shoulder seasons have become much longer. In the winter months the Mercury Bay South area is easily cut-off and isolated during weather events and assistance is strictly localised. Having St John on call will support our locals in a variety of ways – from personal needs to the support of businesses’ and the staff that travel distances to keep our local economy intact.
