Auckland Summer Shakespeare

We are the original outdoor summer shakespeare production, and we've been entertaining and enthralling audiences, bringing Shakespeare back to the masses, and launching creative careers since 1963.

But we need your help to continue this immense and important tradition.

Every year we stage a high-quality outdoor show from one of Shakespeare's works, but every year the cost to do this goes up: more expensive seating and materials, more expensive crew costs, and more compliance and regulatory costs. At the same time, there's never been more competition, and the funds available through community funding organisations have never been more stretched.

Although we're based at Auckland Univeristy and are connected to the Auckland University Students' Association (AUSA), we don't receive any funding from these bodies. We rely primarily on surpluses from shows to pay the bills, but we're at the whim of Auckland's notoriously fickle weather, where one rained out show can mean the difference between a modest profit and a huge loss.

We've been around for over 50 years, but we need your help for the next 50. Help us launch the careers of the next Lisa Harrow, Sylvia Rands, Michael Hurst, or Raymond Hawthorne, help us continue to bring Shakespeare to new generations, help us continue to be the highlight of the Auckland theatre calendar.
