Schools and community centers have been destroyed in Vanuatu. We are working to immediately help the locals rebuild.

Taranaki

Following Cyclone Pam, we are concentrating on fixing school roofs to schools to get children back in the classrooms. Schools in Vanuatu are sparsely resourced, with anywhere between 400 to 1000 children in one school.

As a small organisation, we take on individual school projects as donor funds allow and work with a local school, engineer, local builder, and local suppliers to identify the needs, purchase the supplies and begin rebuilding immediately to the new cyclone building code. There is simply no funding coming anytime soon from the Vanuatu Government for schools, UNICEF have kindly placed tents in the schools in the meantime.

We have a good working relationship with local Rotary and some NGO's, and are proud to have no overheads. We rely on small amounts of donor funding and are a group of volunteers who self-fund our deployments.

.. if you haven't understood the scale of this "event”.. then trust us to say… cyclone Pam was a” Big Moma”

( local pigeon english)...

$50 will help buy essential materials (wood/ screws)

$300 will help us purchase sheets of iron.

$500 will help employ a builder to rebuild a school (local builder is $3 an hour)

$1000 is enough to kick start another roof rebuild.

$2500 will cover the cost of one emergency shelter.

The Rotary Club of Marton is facilitating the accounting for Byond NZ until our charitable status is confirmed in New Zealand.

Thank you for any help you can.

Cheers, Lyndon, Lasse, Sam J, Bart and the Byond NZ Team.
