Northland
Waikiekie Cemetery is a trustee-managed cemetery in rural Northland. Trustee-managed cemeteries were established in the early days of our colonial history, and therefore reflect the migration and population distribution patterns of early settlers. The Waikiekie Cemetery provides a link with our pioneering past.
Trustee-managed cemeteries (as the label suggests) are maintained and managed by trustees, who are for the most part local community members who themselves have ancestors in the cemetery. They are not resourced or managed by the local authority.
Our cemetery relies on volunteers and donations.
