Fundraising for a War Horse Memorial to be gifted to the people of Hamilton and sited in Memorial Park, Hamiilton
Waikato
A bronze life sized statue of a typical War Horse who served alongside our soldiers in the First World War.
The Waikato Combined Equestrian Group (Inc) set up a War Horse Commemorative Memorial Board to fundraise for a War Horse Memorial statue to be built and sited in Memorial Park, Hamilton. Matt Gauldie the selected Artist has captured the emotion in the bronze statue of the War Horse looking for the Trooper.
This Memorial will be a descriptive image of a typical war horse with kit as a reminder to our future generation of what a War Horse looked like in that era and a reminder to us all of the sacrifice that these horses made serving our country alongside our soldiers in the First World War of 1914 -18.
Over 10,000 horses were shipped overseas and only four returned to NZ after the war.
These horses deserve recognition and a memorial would be in recognition of the huge sacrifice that the was made.
