The Trust supports the Wellington Emergency Response Team (WERT), also known as NZRT-8. The team plays a vital part in ensuring our city is better prepared when disasters strike. Events like storms, earthquakes, flooding, fire and the search for missing persons are unpredictable. Our volunteer team trains each week to ensure a greater capability is available in the Wellington Region and other parts of NZ when the primary emergency services are overwhelmed. Your valuable contribution to the Trust will help the team with items such as training cost, equipment, vehicles, medical supplies and deployment resources. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Wellington Emergency Response Team is a group of people committed to volunteering their time to assist their community during emergencies and disasters. The team, formed in 1971, is registered with the Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management as per national guidelines. This means they meet various criteria around training, equipment and procedures. This ensures they can provide a professional service as an emergency resource that can support the NZ emergency services and local councils. The team is operated by the Wellington City Council but is independently funded and managed. The team trains weekly in rescue and emergency response related activities.
Within the last few years, the team was deployed for several Wellington storm evacuations. The team also took part in the Plimmerton flooding and Nelson fires evacuations. The team assisted engineers during building seismic assessment following the Kaikoura earthquake in 2016. Previous deployments have included multiple rotations to Christchurch after the 2011 earthquake, Queensland floods in Australia, and assisting the New Zealand Police in urban searches for missing people.
