West Auckland Mental Health Support Trust

We need funding for activities, furnishings & continued peer support for those dealing with mental health issues in the West Auckland area.

Auckland

Te Ata (West Auckland Mental Health Support Trust) is a peer-run community support centre for those with mental health issues in West Auckland.

Te Ata is one of only a few centres of its type in the country and it has become an important place for many of its members and for the community. Te Ata is a place where all of its members (staff and board of trustees too!) have a safe space to grow, to gain confidence, learn new skills and meet new friends. Membership is free and we provide koha and peer-run classes in art, music, writing, dance, mindfulness, relaxation and also many friendly games of pool.

Te Ata is designed to help give peer-support to those dealing with mental health issues and in all stages of their mental health journey. It is a place for members to connect with other people who have lived experiences, just like them. This October (coinciding with Mental Health awareness week), Te Ata will have been in operation for 20 years!

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

Although Te Ata has secured grant funding currently to pay for rent, amenities and some staff wages, it is unfortunately not enough to keep the centre running at its full potential. This is why we are looking at using crowdfunding to pay for specific resources or events, as the need arises.

We would like Te Ata to continue being an awesome environment for everyone who attends. However, the centre is currently furnished with many second-hand furnishings that have seen their best days and teaching resources that need updating.

We would like to see Te Ata through to another 20 years, give the place a facelift, and create a fun, safe, accommodating and enjoyable environment for all. We would also like to facilitate more outings and events for our members, such as trips to local galleries, museums, parks and community events. These greatly improve the life quality of our members, many of whom only have Te Ata for social support.

So please consider donating to Te Ata, even a small donation would improve the lives of many members and enable them to continue to live the life they deserve.

20th Anniversary celebrations + "Growth Board"  17 October 2018

Thank you so much to those who have donated so far, because of you, we were able to partially finance some of our 20th-anniversary party for Te Ata.

And we were also able to pay for a community chalkboard. "The growth board" is a space for members to inspire others and be creative in our shared downstairs area.

It has already had an immediate impact on the environment of the centre and many members have left their mark on it. The theme came from the vibe of our centre, it is a place to connect, to feel safe, validated and to grow in our journeys. It was also themed to coincide with this year's Mental health awareness theme "Let nature in".

Thank you again on behalf of all the centre members, staff and the board of trustees for donating to make this possible!

Our next goals are to get new furniture to see us through another 20 years. Updates for that will be posted once we have achieved this!
