Canterbury is New Zealand's most intensively dairy farmed region. Please help bring publicity to the brutal reality of this industry.
Canterbury
The Hamilton based "Starfish Bobby Calf Project" both rescues bobby calves and promotes awareness of their horrific plight. These 'bobby calves' were born to drink the milk that the dairy industry instead makes billions from selling. New Zealand kills approximately two million dairy calves each year viewing them as little more than a waste product.
Canterbury has approximately 930 000 milking dairy cows. All will give birth this calving season and all will lose their calves within hours of birthing so humans can harvest their breast milk. North Canterbury has the highest number of cows per hectare in New Zealand, closely followed by South Canterbury.
As an ex-dairy worker, who spent four years living on a Canterbury dairy farm, this is a project dear to my heart. The plight of New Zealand's dairy cows and their slaughtered young needs to be highlighted and addressed. I believe a clear vegan message is the most effective way to change New Zealand's out-dated and immoral farming practices.
To help highlight this national injustice and bring awareness to the work of the Starfish Sanctuary your donation would be greatly appreciated. The plan is to place a six by three meter Starfish billboard in a high traffic area for 30 days over the present calving season.
