Contribute to the restoration of the Historic Grave of James & Mary Ann Follas and then attend the unveiling.
Auckland
Greetings Family (those known to me and those unknown to me),
I am a 6th generation descendant of James and Mary Ann. James Follas and Mary Ann Shine are the ancestors of almost all New Zealanders with the surname Follas.
James Follas - son of Thomas Follas of Lurgan, County Armagh, Ireland - arrived in Auckland, New Zealand as a boy with his family on the 15th May 1848. He lived an eventful life as a pioneer in a new country and he passed away on the 6th of September 1916. His remains lie with his wife at O'Neills Point Cemetery in Auckland.
Recently I tracked down James and Mary Ann's grave and found it in a serious state of disrepair. As the grave is in an historic cemetery any restoration has to be carried out by a certified professional. I have obtained a quote for restoration and would like to proceed to do so with the assistance of other descendants who wish to contribute.
We can restore the headstone(monument) only or restore the entire site depending on how much funds is raised. I have set the target for restoration of the headstone(monument) only. Please see quote details below.
When the restoration is complete I would like to have an unveiling of the restored grave and invite all descendants to attend.
Kind regards,
David Follas
