Patea Afloat is a community project to build a colourful fence made from small boats in the main street of Patea.
Taranaki
Creative Communities and the Patea Community Board have partially funded this project. Several local businesses have also pledged support through discounts on materials and labour, and expertise. It is intended to get the Patea Area School involved in this creative pursuit, as well as interested residents of Patea. It will be fun.
The benefits are to celebrate the connection many generations of Patea people have with the beach and ocean; to create something else to make people stop here and enjoy all Patea has to offer; and to disguise the wrecked cars spoiling the pleasure of our main street view.
I will be facilitating the project from concept to completion, and responsible for compliance reporting.
Puritia Consultants was incorporated in 2008. It is the facilitating organisation for a not-for-profit community project in Patea which will highlight this community's links with life at the beach. The project is designed to make people smile, with the innovative use of materials and colour.
Funds raised will be used to purchase materials for the boat fence, particularly the dinghys needed to make this unique structure.
