Fund sustainable yoga programmes in NZ's prisons

  • We didnt meet our target but here's how you can still help us...

Thank you so much for making a generous pledge to our Give a Little project. When the project closed $31,599.00 had been pledged by 134 generous backers. It's amazing to know that so many people support the initiative to bring yoga and mindfulness into prisons as a transformative practice. Crowdfunding is a great way to create an awareness of the crowd of like-minded people around us.

Unfortunately, the way Give a Little projects work is that unless the total pledged achieves the target the pledges made are not actioned. This means your credit card will not be automatically charged.

You do have the option of changing your pledge into a straight donation at the original dollar amount (or a different one), and obviously we are asking you to consider this. If we can raise funds at or around the level pledged, that will still allow us to support a significant number of additional yoga and mindfulness classes in prisons, and to provide support to teachers in the form of training and mentoring. Importantly, it also is a great platform for us to approach the large philanthropic trusts and corporate sponsors. It shows that a crowd of NZ'ers both believe in the value of yoga in prisons and care enough to donate.

If you want to turn your pledge into a donation, visit the following page: https://givealittle.co.nz/org/yogainprisons/

Please remember that you are under no obligation to do so. We greatly appreciate your offer of support, and fully understand if you are unable to take it further.

However, if you do choose to continue, please be assured that the resources will be used carefully for the purposes originally outlined. We will be reporting regularly through Facebook and email newsletters, and whether you choose to donate or not we hope you will continue to come on this journey with us. Your blessing is what we value most!

Please take care over the festive season, and we trust you will find time to reconnect to the things that sustain you most.

    Blessings,

The Team at Yoga Education in Prisons Trust

  • Ten days to go, lots of amazing feedback, but still only half way there

Thanks so much to everyone who has pledged to support our project. It has been an amazing experience reading your comments and watching the total slowly mount up. Sadly and nail-bitingly, we are only around half way to our target, and the Give a Little rules mean that if we don't get there the pledges are not actioned and we don't get the funds. Despite the business of the pre-Christmas rush, it would mean a hug amount to us if you could all boost the project again via your networks. Many people have given verbal support, but have not got around to donating. Some of them may just need a nudge. We're approaching some corporates and smaller businesses, so if you know of any who you think would be supportive, let us know (via info@yogainprisonstrust.org). Obviously, any business that donates gets some great publicity amongst our wonderful supporters (you guys). So to begin with, we'd like to thank We"Ar clothing in Ponsonby, who have been our loyal supporter for several years now, and are unfailingly helpful and positive. Let's see if we can make a difference by making the target! Best regards, the Yoga In Prisons Team

  • Yoga in Prisons Update

We have been overwhelmed with positive feedback from you all and are really pleased to have got where we are. We're doing really well and look forward to seeing how the next 2 weeks pan out.

We have also had a large response from the community in offers to Volunteer, Assist with this campaign, Bookings for our April Training, Radio interviews, and some sneaky donations made to our bank account which will enable us to print more copies of our Resource Booklet Freedom from Within as this campaign continues.

Some of you have asked about what happens if we dont reach our target. We wish to honour your donations by offering you another way to give your Pledge. There will be an Open Page for YEPT where this will be possible.

In the meantime please continue to spread the good word on our behalf...and not only ours...but the prisoners who are receiving the Yoga. They are just blown away that you care!

    On behalf of YEPT.

    Adhyatma
