Update for 26/11/2012  26 November 2012

On the 15 June 2012, Salisbury School and various other individuals, groups and organisations filed submissions in response to the Ministry of Education's consultation paper on the future of Special Residential Schools in New Zealand. On behalf of parents, students, the 240 people and organisations who undersigned the Community Submission, and the people who signed the petition supporting us to stay open, the Board provided the Minister with a strong case why Salisbury School should remain an option for post-primary girls with complex intellectual impairments. On 27 August 2012 the Minister of Education announced her initial decision regarding the future of Special Residential Schools. The Minister is recommending the closure of Salisbury School in favour of a co-educational residential facility located in Christchurch. On 21st September 2012 Salisbury School filed its second submission in response with reasons why it should stay open. Thanks to everyone for your on-going support. It is very much appreciated!
