August is the Awareness Month for Conductive Education nationally and this year we are taking part in the Wheelie Awesome Wheel-a-thon.
The funding raised from this event will go towards supporting our speech and language therapy programme. At ACET we contract in the services of a Speech and Language Therapist who supports our people with reviewing their communication; expressive and receptive language, communication device and working on developing social skills. Upskilling an individual’s team to support whole of life communication skills is an important role in what our Speech and Language Therapist does.
What is a wheel-a-thon?
Well, it can be whatever you want it to be as long as wheels are involved! We have chosen wheels because all the people who attend ACET use wheels in some shape or form whether it be a walking frame, a wheelchair, riding a bike etc. We wanted an event that everyone could participate in and contribute to.
For the month of August, we are asking our people (past and present) and supporters to commit to setting a goal that involves wheels and fundraising through a Givealittle page and/or sponsorship form which can be shared with friends, whānau, business associates etc. August is historically a month where we are sedentary coming to the end of winter, so our challenge is to get people out and about, get wheelie active and have some wheelie awesome fun while doing some good for ACET!
