Every year, we try to capture what generosity looks like across Aotearoa. We cannot tell every story or reflect every moment of care, but we do our best to honour the mahi, compassion and quiet kindness that flow through the Givealittle platform every day. This year’s report reflects a simple truth. Even in a challenging world, people remain deeply connected. When others need help, New Zealanders notice, and they act.

Over the past financial year:
• 365,882 donations** were made through Givealittle
• A total of $31.6 million was donated
• More than 4,200 charities and schools were supported
• Thousands of individuals and community causes received help when it mattered most
Auckland led the country by total giving, contributing $14.2 million, while regions such as Gisborne and Northland stood out for the highest average donation per person. Big cities brought scale. Smaller communities brought intensity. Both matter, and together they paint a picture of a country that cares.
As in previous years, health-related causes continued to be the most common reason people turned to Givealittle, reflecting the very real pressures families face when illness or injury strikes.
Alongside this, strong fundraising activity continued across:
• Community support and disaster relief
• Schools and education
• Animals and conservation
• Sports, challenges and youth initiatives
From urgent medical needs to school camps, flood recovery to community projects, the platform continues to support a wide and evolving range of causes, shaped by what is happening in people’s lives and in the world around them.
This year’s total sits slightly below some previous peaks, which were shaped by major national emergencies. What is striking, however, is the consistency. Despite ongoing cost-of-living pressures and global uncertainty, generosity has not disappeared. Instead, it has become more intentional. People are choosing causes carefully, often closer to home, but they are still choosing to give. That deliberate generosity speaks volumes about who we are.
Givealittle exists because we believe that generosity does not have to be grand to be meaningful. Small donations, given by many people, can change lives. As our CEO, Lythan Chapman, reflects: “What we see year after year is that generosity is woven into everyday life in New Zealand. It shows up in practical ways, at the moments people most need support. Giving a little, together, adds up to something very powerful.”
Behind every number in this report are real people and real moments of care. This year, Givealittle supported communities responding to floods, families facing medical emergencies, charities delivering essential services, and New Zealanders extending help beyond our borders when global crises unfolded. These stories differ in scale and setting, but they share a common thread. People saw a need and chose to respond.
As we reflect on the year that has been, we are also focused on what comes next. Over the year ahead, Givealittle will continue to invest in improving the platform, making it easier, safer and more effective for people to give. This includes continued work on tools like payroll giving, improved user journeys, and clearer support for charities, schools and community groups.
Our role remains the same. To be trusted infrastructure for generosity, quietly enabling care to move where it is needed most.
To everyone who donated, fundraised, shared a page, or supported a cause this year, thank you. Your generosity, whether given publicly or quietly, locally or globally, continues to shape the kind of country we are.
