PIC Coastal Classic 2019
The PIC Coastal Classic is New Zealand's iconic coastal yacht race, taking adventurous sailors 119 nautical miles from Auckland to Russell.Northland
The PIC Coastal Classic is 119 nautical miles long. It starts off Devonport Wharf in Auckland, and finishes off Russell Wharf in the Bay of Islands. Described as a drag race, it can be a sprint for the fastest boats who can finish in less than six hours, or a challenging marathon for the crew on boats that take more than 24 hours to reach Russell.
Melanoma New Zealand's involvement (page creator)
You can help save lives while you sail! Get your family and friends in behind your superb efforts in the PIC Coastal Classic and supporting our event’s chosen charity, Melanoma New Zealand. Take up the great fundraising challenge going out to all our PIC Coastal Classic sailors - we are challenging you (individual sailors or crew) to set up your own fundraising page.
New Zealand has the highest rate of melanoma in the world, and as yachties we are particularly susceptible - so we all need to be aware of how to prevent melanoma and how to detect it early. The statistics are terrible: more than 4000 people are diagnosed with melanoma in New Zealand every year and more than 350 New Zealanders die each year from it - that’s higher than our road toll.
But caught early, melanoma is almost always curable. So everyone, please get fundraising for this really important cause! The sooner you start your fundraising the page, the better as there will be a very special prize for the team who raise the most. Please help us fight melanoma, share this page today.
