Puketi forest needs enviroMate100 pest control technology now!

  • why only 14 days for the page

      30 September 2018

Its either going to gain support or its not. I have identified that only those with credit cards can participate. Unfortunately this excludes many likely to help. It consumes time just to manage the page!

    Hopefully we will be successful!

Will you do another one? I only just found this today so didnt get enough time to share around or put more money in ❤

    • 04/09/2019 by eco-land Ltd

We have now gained poison consent and progress to maintain 1000ha in the middle of Puketi!

  • can you remove toxins after control

      30 September 2018

Yes we can physically remove toxins or otherwise bury what has not been eaten. We like to clean the site and remove baits so degraded baits do not cause harm or poison shy pest species due sub lethal does.

We however can not control what happens to rats poisoned as they travel away. That is why we choose to use 1st generation toxins as they are said to be more friendly and are not mentioned to be food chain accumulating poisons

  • do you use for monitoring!

      30 September 2018

    Yes.

When we start a job where low pest density is expected we run the units for a 7 or 14 day cycle just with lure. When we recheck we load toxin to just those units where possums or rats/ mice have been present

  • can possum fur be recovered

      30 September 2018

yes, the unit is programed so you know exactly which day the delivery will be so bodies can be recovered or counted

  • would you use 1080 in them

      30 September 2018

    No!

It has no antidote. Our present safety plan would limit us as we would be possibly accountable to Work Safe should some thing happen especially since other toxins are available that are safer to use complete with antidotes

  • Do you use traps!

      29 September 2018

Yes we have used traps instead of toxin. This becomes more labour intensive by adding an additional visit per cycle to open the trap with leg holds. Kill traps have also been used though efficiency of control on their own with out toxin is reduced dramatically

  • Why so cheap per hectare?

      29 September 2018

enviroMate100 save labour and concentrates effort to increasing control area. This enables large areas to be worked by one operator all at the same time daily. The end result is that most animals are stopped on the outside of the control

  • what is eviroMate 100

      29 September 2018

    enviroMate100 is a bait station

It differs from other bait stations because

1/ automated complete with battery and timer

2/ it has 7 independent food bins

3/ can supply lures and toxins in separated order of delivery

4/ gives opportunity of monitoring over a week

5/ can deliver new dish up to every 7 days (49 days)

  • what would you change

      29 September 2018

Open public tenders for all pest control work. This would enable a clear line to evolve in what ground operators will work and where aerial operators are required......

apples with apples requirements set for both delivery methods aerial and ground control. This means target driven and achievement before total payment as ground operators currently work. Or service driven as helicopter operators are currently funded.....

accountability for none target species creating a liability against the operating system and management of!

  • what are your dificulties to market

      29 September 2018

Access to participate at landscape scale

  • Why do you do this!

      29 September 2018

create work opportunity for others whilst operating sustainably within N.Z's clean and green imagine. But most of all protecting and cherishing the environment I enjoy

  • How much area can one person cover once per year

      29 September 2018

3500ha-10000 ha dependant on vehicle access and degree of difficulty

  • How many enviroMate carry be carried and how would this be done in Puketi

      29 September 2018

20 enviroMate can be carried in a specially design pack.

For comfort each operator carries 16 pus lure etc

For health and safety plus training a team of two is desired. Making two trips per day in a forest like Omahuta which is extremely dense vegetation

  • What is a large forest

      29 September 2018

2000ha and above landscape scale no need for helicopter

20000ha a helicopter would be used dependant on roading access

  • How to work a large forest successfully on the ground

      29 September 2018

To carry heavy loads long distance is difficult.

Helicopters could be used to carry pallets with 144 units to designated central points

The units can be dispersed for service easily from there and monthly moved out towards the edges as landscapes enable.

    This would help prevent reinvasion.

144 units would service up to 400 ha approx.

Pest control time is the walking not the actual servicing

  • What about rats!

      29 September 2018

Rat can be control simultaneously within the possum programme, Rat bait is include in separation within the same dish after cynara 50 is delivered. We need gain additional consents to enable rats to be control.....

a small percentage of rats are killed by the cyanide paste approximately 1 rat to every10 possums

  • How will we do possum pest control!

      29 September 2018

    using enviroMate100

    Possums

    1st visit:

initial placement at 200m by 150m

Loaded with flour lure x 6 days

    '' '' 5 cyanara 50 encapsulated baits/ lure x 2 days

    " " 1 feratox cyanide with non toxic bait x 6 days

Total kill opportunity first 14 days: 8 possums

Second visit: collect and move to mid point (100m)along walk line reload as per above

Third visit remove and re site as per schedule

Please note Puketi has around 1- 1.8 possum per ha

  • What is a WTI 15%

      29 September 2018

WTI is a monitoring system used to understand possum populations based on percentage gains or decreases. In Omahuta enviroMate100 and 1 person gained under 10%WTI. This translates to under 2%rtc residual trap catch monitoring. Ospri require contractors to achieve below 2 % RTC for tb control across farmland. Doc desire a 3% RTC depending on the contract. As an example the last aerial 1080 effort in Northland of which I have data shows a 17% WTI for possums.

You have mentioned a WTI is a wax-tag-index please explain how this is achieved and what a RTC is.

    • 29/09/2018 by eco-land Ltd

Thanks for you interest. read further updates and its explained some

where there. WTI is a monitor system used by DOC NRC and possibly

      Ospri.

Malcolm Thomas was the original developer I I recall correctly. It is

a Wax Tag used for indexing. It looks like a cattle ear tag with a

lump of candle wax stuck to it. They are placed as designated by NPCA

(National Pest Control agencies) protocol either 10m or twenty meters

apart for 200m. Let in the field and collected either 3 or 7 days

later. Teeth marks are left by any animal or animals the interact.

  • The out come desired

      29 September 2018

The out come will be possum control work maintained to target 15% wti, rats reduced, stoats targeted when identified, a time in motion study of the enviroMate 100, an a physical display of pest control at landscape scale.......We would employ and train one new local member with CSL to operate the enviroMate per equipment rotation every 30 days, so a total of 6 within the proposed operation. With 6 trained independent operators the maintenance of the total forest is possible each year should the technology and management system be accepted. Across three years the cost to implement would be similar to that of one aerial delivery

please do ask the questions and I will provide a reply, it helps me understand where information is required, or ways to improve enabling more confidence for you to participate.......thanks

Time is running out please support this cause, showing at scale alternative ground based systems can consistently meet or exceed environmental targets set by Doc
