Fundraising to cover the cost of a second cochlear implant for Amber.
Nationwide
Our Govt have announced 2 funded cochlear implants for all children under 6 but Amber is 10 so won't get a govt funded 2nd implant. We will also have to pay for all future support and repairs :(
All children deserve the right to hear from both ears. Thanks for your help
Amber had her surgery on October 22nd and was switched on on December 2nd 2014. We took out a personal loan to cover the $32000 cost. We are still fundraising to try and cover some of the cost of the implant and the ongoing costs which are about $5000 every 2 years and a replacement processor every 5-7 years which costs about $15000.
The clinic warned us not to expect too much for several months but two days later Amber was identifying words, and a few days later sentences.
Her hearing is not quite as good as her other ear just yet but I expect within a few months it will be.
Being there as often as you need us, and liasing with your medical team if necessary. We can also assist with fundraising when needed.
