In Memory of Riki and her love of Elephants

In memory of Riki and a cause she absolutely loved. Raising funds to support Elephant conservation.

Auckland

We are so sad that Riki left us so early. Far too early.

She had such a fascinating life ahead of her. By now she would have been in Malawi, Africa helping under-privileged children and if Riki was with us today I think she'd put it like this...

Please help me raise money to support the Elephant Conservation Centre in Sayaboury, Laos who do such a wonderful job in trying to ensure these magnificent creatures survival.

Check out www.elephantconservationcenter.com/ which explains how the ECC has a mission to start a new era for conservation of the Asian elephant within Laos and to offer a unique experience to visitors wishing to contribute towards the protection of this wonderful but endangered species. The Center was launched in 2011. It is managed by a team of elephant specialists that have been working towards the protection of elephants in Laos for over a decade, running welfare, vetcare, breeding and mahouts training programmes.

Riki would love to know that funds will be used to cover costs for the ECC baby bonus program where an owner of a pregnant elephant would stay at ECC for two years after the baby is born and receive free vet-care and be able to spend time with other mothers and calves.

It's now 18 months since Riki left us. I'm sure she would be overwhelmed by the generosity of friends and family in contributing to something she loved. She'd probably say... "We stayed at the ECC in 2013. I loved it at the conservation center and was so impressed by the ECC conservation work. I really wanted to stay longer and help them more. Spending time with the elephants and seeing one of the wonderful young calves was one of my most enjoyable days ever! If I was still around I might have even made it back to the ECC to volunteer there some day. Anyone who knows me knows that I love elephants (and giraffes) and I love the work the ECC does to conserve these magnificent animals. Please help save the Elephants. Thanks!"

THANKS SO MUCH!!!  17 June 2017

Thanks everyone! After sadly losing Riki we set up a Givealittle Page to support a cause that was big for her and thanks to some very generous support just recently we achieved the initial goal and have raised $15,000!

That’s enough to save an elephant and the Elephant Conservation Centre in Laos was able to bring an elephant into the centre - named Mae Khoun Noy which means "The small elephant that brings luck”. Riki would love it! iThis has helped us a lot too. Thanks so much.

WoW! Huge hugs to Shelley for contacting me and enabling me to both be involved for a great cause and earning so much money for our cause. I drilled a whopping 171 plates to make up 57 three tiered cake stands for the Pink High Tea for Breast Cancer Cure, organised by the wonderful ladies at Greenhithe Harcourts Cooper & Co. And I also supplied the rods, then went down and helped assemble them. Alas, since 4 plates broke in the process - I remade the pieces into jewellery which went into the Silent Auctions, so all good. Can't thank you enough.
