Help feed these women and children
Nationwide
We work to support an Auckland refuge for women and children who need to escape from domestic violence.
This refuge is not part of the National Collective of Women's Refuges. For 20+ years, it has done the same work for its clients as the networked refuges, but with significantly less support and funds.
Last year, Jackie was invited to visit refuge to identify the needs of the women and children in its care. A community of online individuals formed around Jackie and this cause: The Twitter Aunties have given their time, donations, and resources to supporting the refuge in the absence of national collective support.
However, there is one need that is perpetually urgent and very difficult to fulfil.
All women in residence must pay for their own food. Money is tight for these women - this is often the case before they even make it to the refuge - and their lives are at crisis point.
The Twitter Aunties need your help to ease the burden. By helping to meet their monthly food costs, a significant source of stress would be removed for the refuge administrators, and those who live in their care.
Through this cause, we hope to raise enough money to contribute towards a year's worth of food, purchased every 6-8 weeks. Please join us in supporting these women and children in need.

Christmas shopping! 14 December 2014
Thank you to everyone who gave a little or a lot and helped us reach our fundraising goal. Our next hope was to raise enough to get the women and children of the refuge whanau the Christmas they deserved and would have otherwise gone without.
Together, you and us, we've done it. We are using the money over goal to make up 25 food tubs for families in refuge and those who have been there and keep in regular touch. This will be gifted to them on the day of their Xmas party this next week.
Today, we're getting in our cars and braving the storm to go out and make it happen. More happy tears, more precious smiles - that's just us. What you do for the women and children is even more amazing. Thanks. x
