There is no definitive way to measure the level of support, however the last independent research commissioned revealed about 85% community support. More recently during the Resource Consent process there were slightly more than 50% submissions in favour and slightly less than 50% submissions against. But since of those in favour, several represented large organisations, each with many thousand members, we can assume very strong support. We hope that helps and thanks for the question!
