Support and follow an incredible journey of 4 young kids and myself as we trek down the coast from Mokau to Kawhia on a voyage of discovery.
Waikato
With over a 100 basic survival courses under their belt, 4 young kids, under the supervision of an experienced outdoors man, are undertaking a arduous trek down the rugged King Country coast from Mokau to Kawhia. The challenging journey is expected to take approx 7 days, and allow the kids to put into practice all the different survival skills they have learned over the years.
This particular coastal trek was chosen not only because of it's challenging physical aspects, but because of the real possibility of discovering very ancient fossil remains (a big interest of ours) including previously, suspected dinosaur bones found by a close friend, along a remote section of the coast.
Although we will be taking very little food (as this is a living off the land experience) we do need funds for some good quality clothing, footwear, internet connection to update images and info, and also a go pro each to film our journey and create a 1 hour doco afterwards...
we would very much appreciate your support for a very unique experience that may impact these kids for life...
My name is Bevan Taylor, and for the last decade I have been sharing my passion for our natural environment and extensive knowledge of the King Country coastal regions with kids and youth.
I have been personally involved with over 500 voluntary camping experiences, kayaking expeditions, hiking trips, and horse trekking for kids over the last few years...
The purpose of our trust is to educate and train kids and rangatahi (youth), and in particular, ‘at risk’ rangatahi, in job skills, work ethics, self-esteem and self-confidence, by using the natural environment and culture, to develop respect, appreciation and pride for their hapori (community) and our natural environment, while using outdoor activities as metaphors to explore and improve attitudes, and live out their God-given potential through the challenge of adventure.
