Dr Dave swims: to personally challenge body and mind and support kids and teenagers with dyslexia and learning disabilities.
Tokoroa, Waikato
We all face challenges in our lives, and I have faced quite a few. I take on things where I will truly be tested with the aim of learning and coming out the other end a better person. The fear of failure grips us all, but I have learned to embrace it and keep pushing forward. On the 7th Feb 2025 I will be swimming the Foveaux Strait (Steward Island to Bluff). A successful crossing will see me complete the NZ open water marathon swimming Triple Crown (Length of Lake Taupo, Cooks Strait & Foveaux Strait), before going on to attempt the Ocean Seven. I will be swimming in to support Dyslexia and Dyslexia Foundation New Zealand.
The main driver for this swim is to support those who face challenges with dyslexia and suffer from learning disabilities. Once I have covered the costs for the swim I will donate all other donations to kids & teenagers to provide a much-needed 'step-up' with learning support to get them on track to achieve great things in their own lives.
We all have the ability to learn and gain a well-rounded education, but experience has taught me that the true challenge is discovering how we each learn best. We simply learn differently and that is fine! The path to achievement is individual and we just need to find our path!. Dr Dave swims main aim is to use marathon swimming as a platform to help others who have also been challenged by dyslexia and learning disabilities to provide support for initiatives to get others established on their own path in life!
All donations will be used to cover the swim costs, including a professionally trained boat crew and guide, launch, fuel, and independent ratified marathon swim observer. Learning support for kids who struggle with dyslexia from North & South Marlborough Boys College in Blenheim (SI) and Tokoroa High School.
