Doug for Life

  • Sad News

      10 February 2016

I am deeply saddened to advise you all that Doug passed away today at Waipuna Hospice, with Fiona by his side.

Doug remained determined to win his fight against this awful cancer, and managed to stay positive and strong for his family right to the end.

His goal was to continue with the next Keytruda treatment but sadly, time did not allow this.

Thank you to everyone for your generosity in supporting Doug on this journey, it is greatly appreciated. I would like to keep this page open as a support to Fiona, William and Ryan.

I am so sorry to be the bearer of such sad news. Any correspondance can be emailed to Fiona at fionandoug@xtra.co.nz.

Rest in peace Doug. You will be missed and remain in our hearts. xxx

  • January update

      12 January 2016

Doug had a scan just before Christmas with a follow up appointment at the Cancer Centre. Unfortunately the cancer didn't respond to the new round of chemotherapy and Dougs last option was to try Pembrolizumab (Keytruda).

After consultation with Canopy Cancer Care in Auckland, Doug was eligible for the treatment, and had his first dose on Friday 08th January. The cost for these treatments will be $11000.00 every three weeks. After the 6th treatment Doug will have another scan which will hopefully show that this new treatment is working. Its still a day-by-day journey for Doug, Fiona and the boys, and we all hope that this new cancer drug works for Doug. Thank you again for your support.
