I’m not sure how many of you realise this but my partner in Highland events, Ed Stevens, has been fighting a battle with cancer for the past four years. He has been on various drugs to stop the cancer spreading. Unfortunately the drugs have stopped working and the only other drug that will help Ed now is Enzalutamide which does not have Pharmac funding.
I've started up a page on the Give A Little website to raise funds for Ed. These sorts of pages seem to be quite commonplace these days so why not do one for Ed! Ed is a great community man putting on philanthropic events to raise money for local schools and paying between $1000 - $4000 per event to community groups who provide marshals to our events. Even though Highland Events are commercial if you consider the hours he’s put in, the responsibility/stress and risk involved you’ll understand it has all been done for minimal financial reward. He does it cos he loves it!
If all the friends and supporters of Ed were able to make a monthly donation we will still have Ed around for a lot longer to organise these wonderful events we all appreciate so much.. The cost for the drug is about $5000/month. (Innitial quotes were as high as $11,000! he has finally sourced some for just under $5000). After much hassle Ed is finally on the new medication - we will keep you up-to-date with how he goes! Thanks so much to all the wonderful support!! It has been absolutely humbling.
If you are unable to commit to a regular monthly payment, one-off donations will also be gratefully appreciated.
Ed is my business partner and best friend. Eight years ago Ed asked me if I’d be keen to go in with him and organise a few events. We organise mountain and endurance based events like the BIG EASY MTB and Mountain Running events, two Rogaines each year, the Northburn100, the Southern Lakes Half Marathon and 10k, The Mt Difficulty Ascent and Rustic Run/Walk. It may look like I am more of a front man sometimes but make no mistake – none of these events would happen without Ed! I owe Ed so much for all he’s done for me over the years, unfortunately I am in no position to help him financially so starting this page is the least I can do.
Ed has given a lot of people a lot of fun and adventure over the years, let's all help him out now when he really needs it.
Ed and Carol (and me!) would be sooooo grateful for your support. Thanks very much.
