I've been selected to represent NZ at the World Rowing Junior Champs held in Rio this year. To get there, I need your help and support.
Waikato
Hi, my name is Anahera Nin. I am 17 years old and I am a proud rower and student in my last year at Waikato Diocesan School for Girls. I started rowing 3 years ago to "give it a go" and have loved it ever since.
I've been blessed to be part of a rowing culture which has fuelled my passion for this sport and taught me about hard work, determination, and pushing myself to my limits. With the help of my coaches and crews, I have made an A Final for every boat I've ever raced in, which led to medals over the course of my 3 seasons at both New Zealand Rowing Club Champs and Maadi (New Zealand Secondary School Rowing Champs).
I was also selected last season to represent the North Island in the U18 North Island vs. South Island in the pair and the 8+, coming away with a win in the pair.
I am very proud to say that I was apart of the Waikato Dio 8+ that won gold and the Levin Jubilee Cup last season at Maadi as well as the 4+ that won gold and the Dawn Cup for the first time in Waikato Dio history.
Now, after 3 years of hard work, I have been selected to represent New Zealand at the World Junior Rowing Championships held in Rio de Janeiro during August as the stroke of the Women's Coulees Four. As excited as I am for this opportunity, I won't be able to go without your help!
The cost to attend the World Junior Champs in Rio is $7500. It is called our 'Tour Contribution' and is paid to Rowing New Zealand. This cost covers our accommodation, flights, transport of boats, food, uniform and basically all we need while we're over there.
Leading up to World Junior Champs, we stay at Lake Karapiro for 8 weeks at a cost of $275 p/ week ($2200 all up), and this combined with other expenses along the way all adds up to being very expensive.
Although this seems like a lot of money, I know that with the support of my family, my school, and most importantly YOU, I will work the hardest I can so that I can get to Rio and race for New Zealand to get that Gold. Every bit counts, and every donation matters.
I'm so grateful for this opportunity to represent New Zealand in rowing, to represent my school Waikato Dio, and to represent my people.
