Help Mel and her family as she starts her long road to recovery after she was seriously hurt in a road accident.
Hawke's Bay
On Wednesday August 5th Mel was the passenger in a car involved in a serious road accident in Napier. 3 bright young people were seriously hurt. Mel has a long road ahead of her which will involve being transferred to Middlemore Hospital for specialist care. She has a tough road ahead with multiple surgeries and rehabilitation. Her mum Lee will accompany her and needs our support to be by Mels side at this difficult time.
The money donated will be used for expenses i.e. bills and rent while Mel is unable work. Her mother is supporting her in her recovery process. She is going to be transferred to Auckland eventually for specialist care and her mother will accompany her. We want to ensure that she can do this and not be worrying about household bills and the expense of temporarily residing in another city.
Many people will recognise Mel as the bubbly barmaid that greats you when visiting the Meeanee Hotel.
As a community lets get behind the Smiths as they focus on helping their precious daughter to heal.
We are friends of the Smith family and want to see that they are able to concentrate on supporting Mel in her time of need.
Waking Up 13 August 2015
Mel was transferred to Auckland on Tuesday and underwent a massive 16hr surgery on Wednesday. News came through on Thursday morning that they would be starting to bring Mel around for the 1st time since the accident. She managed to give her mum a smile but is understandably confused about what is going on. Thanks for all the donations so far. Let's keep going :)
