Before you buy your coffee this morning....remember the cost could put a child through school or feed a family for a week in Cambodia

After visiting Siem Reap in Cambodia recently, I was moved by the people’s war torn history and continued poverty stricken conditions. At the same time I was impressed by their resilience and efforts to better themselves, all with a friendly smile and wave.
There is no social security system or government hand outs. People rely on hard work, family, community bonds and of course overseas relief efforts.
• 50% of the population of Siem Reap lives under the poverty line – this is set at USD$1.25 per day
• 85% of the population of Siem Reap live in rural areas, most without running water and electricity.
• It costs only $150 PER YEAR to send a child to school, yet most families can’t afford even a notebook and pencil, let alone transportation to schools, books and unofficial fees.
Like many people who travel to Cambodia, I tried to make what small contribution I could while there and left feeling the need to do more.
Therefore I’m reaching out to my friends, family and contacts to see what support we can generate together. Every little bit helps.
For those in Singapore you can donate the below items. Drop of at my work or I will try to collect.
• Good quality used clothing and shoes – especially children’s sizes
• Children’s books and educational items
Cash donations via below link will be used to purchase the below items. Where possible supplies will be purchased in Cambodia to support the local economy.
• Sports equipment for rural schools ie soccer balls and pumps
• Essential food supplies ie Rice
• School supplies ie notebooks, pencils, chalk
• Jandals/flip flops in children’s sizes
• Basic first aid supplies ie Band-Aids, antiseptic cream
I plan to return to Siem Reap Cambodia to distribute donations within rural villages in April 2016, depending on response I may return earlier and make a second trip later in the year.
I will of course be paying for my own airfare, accommodation and expenses to ensure all proceeds benefit the Cambodia Community. I encourage anyone interested in helping in other ways or coming with me to Siem Reap to get in touch. Likewise, if you have any questions, please contact me.

Successful trip - Big thank you! 9 May 2016
A big thank you to all who supported our cause for Cambodia.
Myself, and three others travelled to Siem Reap, Cambodia in April to support Angkor Tree School and the surrounding village.
We raised approx. SG$2,500 and also received an abundance of clothing, stationary and other items donated from the team within the Fonterra SEA office which really speaks to the Fonterra values.
The cash donations provided;
• A new larger TV for classes and presentations
• 5 Bikes to help families get to work and school
• 25 provision packages for families in need incl Rice, noodles, oil etc
• Clothing, stationary and items from donations
The teachers at the school have such dedication and passion and the kids and family so eager to learn and full of life. The team hope to continue collecting cash donations, clothing and other items to make a return trip in November.
