Help for Jemma

  • Update for 10/09/2013

      10 September 2013

Hi Donors as we were unable to go ahead with the surgery for Jemma on vet advice the options for the $2600 raised are to have a fund for Jemmafs medication (which currently costs $1.60/day for Incurin tablets) or to refund the money to the donors. Anyone requesting a refund please email info@dogrescuedunedin.co.nz

Bad news- despite us having Jemma evaluated with eye tests here and being given the provisional OK, the surgeon in ChCh found she canft be operated on successfully. The eye tests here were never supposed to be 100% definitive, the operation was always subject to the surgeonfs opinion. We were trying to get her all better in time for adoption because her fosterer is leaving Dunedin. If shefs not adopted soon she will have to go into another foster home. Every time she changes her home it will be a major challenge for her because she has to learn where things are. So she urgently needs a permanent home where the people are sensitive to her needs and have the time and right environment for her. But she is a great dog and not at all sorry for herself. DRD is considering options to help Jemma in other ways, or other ways help other Dunedin dogs with eye problems, with the money raised. Donors will have the option of being refunded or contributing to these causes, details coming ASAP

  • Jemma Update 03/08/2013

      3 August 2013

Thanks so much to everyone who has donated to Jemma's cause so far! We are almost there! Here's an update on Jemma from her fosterer. Jemma is still looking for a home too if you are interested please email: info@dogrescuedunedin.co.nz Jemma has been with us almost 2 months now, and she has not just adapted to her new surroundings, but has quickly picked up the daily routine with her foster brother Bandon with regard to toilet timing, feeding times, and bed times. She sits, stays, lays down (with encouragement!), and waits for her food until the release command is given... proving that you can in fact teach old dogs new tricks! She is a super dog ? sweet, funny, obedient and loves to sleep in front of the fire. She is very nice with other dogs, and gets along great with our friends' kids, she is very gentle - you can even put your hands in her food dish when she is eating. We call Jemma our little monkey, she is eager to please and greets us in the morning or when we arrive home after work with a twisty-jump in the air and a big smile. She is not a barker, nor does she jump on people. She walks well on the leash. She loves, loves, LOVES to play with the ball. Jemma is extremely well house-trained and can ghold ith for up to 10 hours overnight and also during the work day (we both work full time and both Jemma and her foster brother stay in the house while we are gone). She stays off the furniture, and has never chewed anything, or gotten into any mischief, while we are out. She would be an excellent indoor dog for a family with kids, or a professional couple or single. Jemma just loves to be part of the family, and she has the softest fur!
