I was informed by Sierra, quietly, this afternoon, that my dear friend Isaac had passed on to the next life his heart having lost its brave battle just before 4pm today. We join with his whanau as they mourn the loss of a wonderful son, brother, moko and cousin. We have lost a great friend and a bright light and will remember dear Isaac Harawira with great fondness and hope, grateful that he was ours for a time.

We love you dear friend, go well into the night.

"Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting: The Soul that rises with us, our life's Star, Hath had elsewhere its setting, And cometh from afar: Not in entire forgetfulness, And not in utter nakedness, But trailing clouds of glory do we come From God, who is our home"

William Wordsworth, Ode, Intimations of Immortality

  • Overwhelming response

We have been overwhelmed with the response from the community towards this fundraising project. In the last few days Whakatane Beacon, Whakatane News, SunFM, Givealittle national team and others have responded with great generosity and enthusiasm to the needs of the family. Currently the total sits at $3195 which is well over the originally stated goal.

As hindsight would have it, $800 would not have been enough, but it looks like the people already knew that and so we now have sufficient to ensure Isaac comes home when he needs to. For that and everything else including the kind thoughts, prayers and heartfelt messages, we say "Thank you so very much".

The latest update on Isaac's condition is that he is still on limited movement. On Wednesday the doctors found a blood clot on his lung that would need to be removed and his heart capacity has been at 30%. He continues to be in relatively good spirits however and his family are happy with his progress.

Isaac's mum and dad have been with him throughout the week. His mum messaged me early this morning to say how extremely grateful she is for the contributions made so that she could be with him in Brisbane. She expects to be there for at least another month given the prognosis, but she recognises how blessed the family has been.

Given today is Easter Friday I think Isaac would say it's "hardout" appropriate for an acknowledgment to go to Our Heavenly Father who has been over all. We give grateful thanks for the knowledge that we are brothers and sisters linked by faith and love in all of these beautiful expressions to Isaac. Be assured The Master, The Messiah and His Father God is in the midst of all of our comings and goings. May the knowledge of a bright hope in the resurrection, and the restoration of all things eternal (broken hearts included) bring you great peace and comfort during this weekend of Christian celebrations.

    We love you Isaac!
