When Linda and a small group started out their aim was to make a difference to Kids in Need. They have demonstrated they can do that.
Waikato
Kids in Need Waikato was founded by Linda Roil in 2017.
Linda collects donations of quality pre-loved clothes and toys and re-gifts them to Kids in need in the Waikato.
The packs she puts together mainly go to foster kids who have been uplifted from their home (often with no warning) or kids who are moved from one carer to another because they are so damaged. These kids are scared, lonely and often feel unwanted.
Foster Carers take these kids in because they want to help. Because they have big hearts. Having a child turn up with a rubbish bag that holds their only belongings, or with nothing at all, is devastating - Linda know from experience, a carer isn’t doing it for the money.
Since starting about five months ago around 200 packs have been made up and delivered to carers looking after foster kids. The packs are enormously personalised when details of the children are known. The smiles that have been put on kids faces and that of their carers has been enormously rewarding
Linda has been overwhelmed by the support of the community and couldn’t do what she is doing without it.
It would be great to have the resources to top up packs with unique gifts, toys, books and clothes.
Every little bit helps
Funds will be used to buy packs, toys, books, and clothes or that something special to help kids adapt to their circumstances.
