Marco is our favourite super powered kid and he needs a sweet ride. Help us get a van he can have pimped and set up for his wheelchair.
Bay of Plenty
So many of us take for granted that we can chuck the kids in the car and go for a family outing or head out and do what we need to do, but it's not that straightforward at the Coates house.
Marco's super powers amongst other things include a rare and non - genetic form of 'lissencephaly' (said like: listen carefully). We were told that we shouldn't expect him to walk or talk or live to be very old. Most kids with his condition do not have a second birthday. He is the happiest, purest, most delightful little soul. He has made his entire family better people and has changed the way we look at life. We feel incredibly lucky to have a kid like Marco with us and wouldn't change him for the world.
Sarah and Layne (Marco's mum and dad) have done their best to get funding for a wheelchair accessible van for Marco but there were 181 applicants and only 70 could be funded. Unfortunately they missed out.
If they can get a van that's suitable they will be able to get the funding to have it adapted so now all they need is the van!
A proper van will be so much better for Marco, so he doesn't have to be lifted in and out of carseats awkwardly. It also means nobody throws their back out lifting him too!.
It needs to be a good one because this will be their main family vehicle for quite a while.
Sarah and Layne are incredible parents to Marco and aside from that they are awesome members of their community. Even with all the things they have going on like hospital visits and specialist things to do, they are always keen to help other people out and I think it's their turn to have a little bit of a helping hand!.
I am Sarah's sister and one of Marco's adoring aunties!!
A message from Marco's Mum 4 March 2015
To all our generous donors...
Thank you does not begin to show the gratitude we have towards you all. We have been very humbled and touched by every single donation, large or small. Marco really does bring out the best in people and this campaign is clearly evidence of that.
Before this campaign started on Tuesday we were seriously considering remortgaging our house or even selling it. It definitely looks like that won't be happening anymore. We are still pursuing other grants and the lotteries commission is reconsidering our application. All of this looks hopeful. It is a lengthy process getting a new vehicle and once we have a vehicle will still need to go through the process of applying for 'enable' funding to get it wheelchair adapted.
Once again we are so grateful to every single person that has donated. Marco is an awesome little boy that faces lots of challenges everyday and we are so excited that we can improve his life in this way. If he could high five you all he certainly would. Marco is pretty worn out today, he has experienced a bit more seizure activity lately but he always has a smile on his dial.
All our love and thanks
The Coates Family
