Rotorua MTB Club needs help to fund the build of 3 Trails in Genesis block, Whaka forest.

Bay of Plenty

Recently, Whaka forest and the Rotorua MTB Club lost the Genesis trails, due to the planned felling which took place a few months ago. Genesis were the oldest trails in the Whaka forest network, the first ever trails built, and were popular because of their close proximity to Long Mile Rd.

There are 3 new trails which require funding, and the club has managed to come up with half the money required to have professional builders plan design and build the trails.

#1) - The first trail skirts the outside perimeter of the genesis block, and uses the gradient of the land to form a somewhat descending trail, but with flowing undulation to get the heart racing - a 1.5km grade 3 Cross country trail which can be exited at Nursery Rd, right near the top entrance to the Dodzy Skills Park, or riders can loop back into trail #2.....

#2) - An uphill climbing trail, which heads up the middle of the Block - grade 3, and will finish at the start of trail #1

#3) - This trail being built will mimic a downhill race type track, but with smaller features and less overall gradient - fit for Grade 4 riders, but will be a perfect training ground for riders wanting a stepping stone to increase their descending skills for higher level harder Downhill trail in other area of the forest.

All 3 trails will be hugely popular as they will provide an area close to both Long Mile Road, and not far from Waipa carpark, on a block which allows lots of variation in the trail.

Another benefit of the block is that it will provide another way to depart the forest onto the Long end, by using the exit into Dodzy Skills Park. This will minimize the risk of mountain bikers colliding with uphill moving walkers, riders, and runners entering the forest on Nursery Rd.

Rotorua Mountain Bike club really needs the help of riders who use the trails to help fund the trails this year, as we have a long list of trails which will require re-instatement following the planned felling which has taken place and continues to take place. The Club is also building 4 other main trail within other area of the forest this year alone.

Rotorua Mountain Bike Club's involvement (page creator)

The mountain bike park in the Whaka forest, Rotorua, NZ is very special. It has been rated as one of the best mountain bike parks in the world, by riders, racers, and world wide media. One of the best things about it, is that it is completely FREE to users, and can be ridden year round. It contains over 160km of single track, purpose built for mountain biking! The Rotorua Mountain Bike Club oversee the planning, building, and maintenance, of the trail system, liaising with the forestry companies involved, the landowners and the Rotorua District Council - all stakeholders in the forest.

As a commercial forest, areas of the forest are felled of their trees, and when this happens the trails beneath those trees are lost. Recently the popular Exit trails were lost to felling. The Rotorua MTB club will oversee the re-build of 2 new 'Exit trails', using contractors for the build.
