Ruby is four and has Cerebral Palsy. We are fundraising for her to have a surgery that will give her the best opportunity to walk.
Auckland
This gorgeous little girl is Ruby. She's a four-year-old who is fiery feisty and a total fighter. She loves to read, play on the trampoline, snuggle with her snuggy(blanky) and play Marco Polo with her cousins.
Ruby has Cerebral Palsy. She's had two surgeries so far on her hips. Her Mum Doleena and Dad Nick dream that Ruby will one day walk so she can have a full and independent life. Ruby goes to therapy two days of the week to improve strength, balance, and mobility. She can't walk but she's really quick at catching her cousins in a game of Marco Polo.
Underground boxing will be hosting a Boxing Fight Night in Ruby's name to help raise funds to get Ruby, Mum and Dad to the US where Ruby will have an operation that will give her the best opportunity to walk. This surgery is called a Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy and is not a surgery that can be done in NZ.
Every parent looks forward to watching their child take their first steps, to run, to skip to dance. We want to help and we hope you do to. Every bit helps and we appreciate anything you can give.
Doleena is my Cousin, Ruby is my niece. Eli at Underground boxing is my partner.
Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy Surgery at St Louis Hospital in the US. The surgeon who will be performing this proceedure created the proceedure and unfortunately is not something offered in New Zealand.
Thank You!!! 1 May 2023

As Doleena and Nick(Ruby's mum and Dad) will be busy tending to Ruby over the next few weeks as she recovers from her surgery, they will update when they can. For now we wait with anticipation and intrepidation for Ruby, Doleena and Nick to return to Aotearoa safely.
