Kerikeri has a need for a community pantry - a Pātaka Kai. This page is fundraising for the small amount of $300 to pay for build costs.
Northland
Kerikeri had an unofficial Pātaka Kai maintained by Nalinee Giri in front of her business, Jaffas Dressing Rooms. With her tragic passing, not only have we lost a beautiful local identity, we have lost our only community pantry.
We would like to restart an official Pātaka Kai but need to raise $300 to pay towards the costs of the build by the Kerikeri Mens' Shed. There is $15 fee that also goes to Givealittle so have added that to the target. Any funds raised over and above the $315 will go towards stocking the pantry. The Pantry will be dedicated to Nalinee. The Pantry would be ready by mid/late July.
It is our hopes that we can come together as a community to help provide for those in need without having to fill in forms etc. There are so many gardens with fallen fruit and excess vegetables, items in pantries that won't be eaten or just those that want to help - now there will be an accessible outlet for those items to be donated.
Largely, the building supplies will be donated by The Men's shed but some uprights will need to be purchased. There is a charge for their time at $20 p/h. We have been quoted $300 all up. Any surplus will be spent on stock for the pantry.
Pataka Success! 1 July 2021
Hi all,
Thanks so much for your donations - we have been so overwhelmed with the generosity of the Kerikeri community. We hit our target within the first day and every dollar over and above means that we can keep this pantry stocked for a bit longer.
If you are around, I'd love to say thanks in person - our opening is on the 3rd of July, this Saturday at 1.30pm at Kerikeri Preschool, 35 Hobson Ave - next to the cinemas
See you then
