Just one person, doing their bit
Nationwide
On 25 November (my birthday) I'm going to shave my head to raise awareness for cancer and money for my nephew Noah who lost his Mum.
This year my family lost two special people to this disease and it feels right to do something... anything to keep people thinking about appropriate prevention and to keep themselves healthy.
We know about cancer but do we get checked?
Do you know what types of cancer are prevalent and how do you go about ensuring your GP knows about your family history.
Do you even have a GP?
Go to the doctor regularly? (for any reason)
Some forms of cancer are treatable if caught early. It doesn't always have to be a sob story and that's what I want to do here. Just something, .... anything. Because nothing doesn't feel like the right choice.
All I'm asking is that you consider donating what amounts to one cup of coffee and to consider what you can do to keep your health checks up to date and stay educated.
Any money raised will go to my nephew Noah, a young boy who lost his Mum way too early. Donations are welcome up to my birthday when I go under the buzz clippers. All money raised will go to Aunty Elaine & Uncle Phillip to hold for their Grandson.
This is in loving memory of Pau (Pauline) Marsh-White and for you Uncle John and to all my friends and family, all of us, touched by .
Love now, love always.
Cheers Puawai
Update for 19/09/2014 19 September 2014
Today I talked to Aunty Elaine about what I was planning to do because this is about them, and about my cousin Pauline and to all my family. It's in memory of family and friends who understand how invasive this disease can be. Family is a hugely important part of who I am and all my love goes to them, now and always. Thank you to Aunty and to my whanau up North and in Australia and friends all over the globe who have expressed their support.
