We are local residents trying to save the historic Takapuna Beach Holiday Park; the very last beach campsite in the Auckland Metro area.
Auckland
Our goal is to inform and to advocate on behalf of the public, from whom there is overwhelming support for retaining the Holiday Park and to ensure that this Public Reserve land stays in the hands of the public.
Currently there is a move by Yachting NZ to build offices, a high performance training facility and boat storage on this land. We think it's the wrong place for such a large development.
We are not opposed to Yachting NZ’s objectives but strongly agree with local sailors who argue that the original proposed location on the Strand is a far more suitable site for Yachting NZ's purposes. It provides direct access to Takapuna Beach and meets YNZ’s ‘key’ requirements in providing facilities for their 20 elite sailors without taking over public land.
Funds raised through your efforts will be used to help run newspaper advertisements, complete our website, print flyers and posters and to do everything we can to draw attention to this great cause.
We are a group of local residents who have watched both local visitors and overseas guests enjoy the unique Kiwi experience of camping and holidaying by the sea, for many years. This is something we all enjoyed as children and believe that camping and caravanning is an iconic part of NZ's culture and something that our children and grandchildren should be able to continue to enjoy.
The Holiday Park is an asset to Takapuna and indeed Auckland and nationally. Once it is gone the land is lost forever, it cannot be replaced. We have seen too much of this happen in the name of “progress” elsewhere.
Thank you so much Annamirl, that's very kind. We really appreciate your support. With best wishes, Jan
