We are fund raising for our dad, who has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Liver Cancer.
Auckland
On the 6th May 2015 our dad had to undergo a emergency operation as a result of a perforated bowel. During the operation the doctors found a large mass in his colon and subsequently had to remove half of his colon due to suspected cancer. After further examination and scans the doctors found the cancer had spread to his liver with a total of 3 metastases.
As a result our dad has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Liver Cancer.
The current prognosis is: if his body responds to the chemotherapy he is potentially looking at 2+ years. If we reach this stage there are further options, such as ablations, which could give him a potential 5+ years on his life.
The current treatment plan which has been proposed by the Oncologist is, 6 months chemotherapy, every second week.
Our dad is currently living in South Africa, where people are highly reliant on Private Medical aid to ensure they receive the necessary treatment. Unfortunately medical aid's only covers part of the costs for treatments, or are selective which treatments they cover. Subsequently we find ourselves in the position that a large medical bill is imminent.
Exactly what the total cost will be is unknown, however our current estimation is a shortfall in excess of $20,000.
The future is blurred at this moment however we believe that he can beat this. We need to ensure that he focusses only on beating the cancer and therefore need any help we can get to ensure that we remove any financial worries there might be.
Your kind help will be appreciated more than you can realise and appreciate your generosity.
As my dad is currently living in South Africa, it is very difficult to provide the support he needs from his children in a situation like this. I am committed to ensure my dad's focus is solely on beating this battle and remove any financial worries to cover the costs for the treatments.
