Please help us raise funds to support the Matthew's family to give Toby visual experiences before his vision deteriorates further.
Canterbury
Toby was born profoundly deaf. At 14 months of age he received a cochlear implant. Over the years that followed Toby and his family learnt sign language and Toby uses this alongside speech to communicate. In 2015 his parents noticed he was frequently tripping over things and became concerned about his vision. Through subsequent testing Toby was diagnosed with Usher Syndrome, Type 1. This rare condition means that his vision will deteriorate. This is already occurring with Toby experiencing loss of peripheral vision and night blindness. As friends of the Matthew's family we would love to raise some money to support the family, to alleviate financial pressures, and to allow them to give Toby some incredible visual experiences.
We are friends of the Matthew's family and I am passionate about providing support for children with special needs.
It would be great to give Toby as many amazing visual experiences before his vision deteriorates further. The family would love Toby to travel with his Dad, Logan to Africa. Logan will be working over there but it would be an opportunity for Toby to have some incredible experiences. The funds will also be used to support the family with the ongoing costs of trips to Auckland for assessments. While Toby and one parent's expenses will be covered there will be other associated expenses.
