Shave for Look Good Feel Better NZ! Raising awareness and $$ for the amazing charity that helps women, men and teens 'Look Good and Feel Better' during cancer treatment (find out more about them at https://lgfb.co.nz/)
I am still $180 away from my minimum goal but it had to be done!
I may be all smiles in this photo but you can probably see my patchy makeup from crying.
I felt really overwhelmed as we did this, thinking about all of the women (in particular) that lose their hair (and eyebrows and lashes) everyday because of cancer treatment, as well as enduring the other side effects and hardships that cancer brings.
The same emotion I feel when I walk into a room of women going through cancer treatment and the same emotion I feel when many of them remove their wigs and headwear.
It's humbling, it's empathy and it's complete awe in a room of strength, bravery and beauty.
I have volunteered for this charity for two decades because I truly believe that by 'looking better' on the outside you can 'feel better' on the inside too and if I can only but help one woman feel cherished and beautiful through our pampering workshops, then I will.
I wanted to shave my head to not only raise money for the charity but to experience what the women that attend our workshops go through.
For me, it was daunting to come to the decision to do this, for the fear that losing my hair means 'losing' my femininity.. something I am sure that many who lose their hair through treatment, will also struggle with.
My shaving my head is an ode to all of them.
Thankyou so much to all of the amazing people who have donated; every dollar counts and will be received with gratitude from the L.G.F.B charity.
If you can spare a few dollars (name and donation amount can be hidden if you would like to be anonymous), it would be greatly appreciated!
