Raising money for Kids with Arthritis NZ Charitable Trust on my 2000km+ cycling circuit of the South Island
Nationwide
Children and young people with Arthritis, face challenges every day. Children can be diagnosed from infancy to the age of 16.
Coping with this illness affects the whole family
Juvenile or Childhood Arthritis is a group of autoimmune illnesses that cause joint pain and swelling, that can progress to joint damage that can be similar to adult rheumatoid arthritis.
Kids With Arthritis New Zealand Charitable Trust supports these families, with support, encouragement and education.
They understand and know how the journey goes.

My challenge is to cycle a loop of the South Island and raise money for this charity. Which is approximately 2,200km
You may wonder why I have chosen KWANZ as my chosen charity.
In 2006, I started a support group in Christchurch for parents of children with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis. This group was one of the two groups that amalgamated in 2011 to form Kids With Arthritis NZ. Although I am no longer involved in the 'engine room' of KWANZ I am still a passionate supporter of this charity.
A Big Thank You 15 May 2022
The weeks have flown by since my South Island ride. I have been in contact with Kids with Arthritis New Zealand to ask how the funds given by you all would be used.
They have a wish list and I chose this one, for which there is a budget of $20,000.00 of which there is a $5000.00 shortfall.
Your fundraising efforts amounted to more than this, and I am sure there will be overruns in the budget for this project that we can help with.
Thank you again on Behalf of Kids with Arthritis NZ

"Primary Age Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) Book
Currently there is a book that rheumatologists provide for teenage children to explain their arthritic condition. However, there is no appropriate book for younger children.
Our intention is to engage a writer and illustrator to write and illustrate a new book for the younger children that we will then publish and make available to rheumatologists to give to newly diagnosed families.
We will be involving the National Paediatric Rheumatology Team from Starship Hospital and a paediatric rheumatologist in Whangarei who we have a strong relationship with when developing the content of the book."
