This is my last update on this givealittle campaign. A huge and heartfelt thanks to each one of you who have cheered us up and over the mountains and supported the children with your $$$. It has been privilege doing this journey with you. Your generosity and encouragement has moved me to tears at times. Grace has brought us home safe and carried us beyond our fundraising target. How cool is that :). Now Stepping Stone's Carolyn Reid Team can step ahead and inject new hope and joy into the hearts of the children and families in their care.

Before you sign off take a few minutes to enjoy and share the video of our final rickshaw run across the Canterbury Plains It's now up on FB. You can view it at https://www.facebook.com/pg/CycleChauffeurNZ

Haere ra my friends. Until next years challenge!!!

Ma te Atua koutou e maanaki

We've had a stack of uplifting feedback from our amazing supporters and donors. Among them was this heart touching 'pearl' from a Stepping Stone client and donor ... "Great work guys! You have made me proud to be a resident of the stepping stone services i just want to thank you for putting your time commitment and energy into helping the children of families with mental illness."

For all the visual people reading this...we've posted some more video footage of the ride online just for you. Check out some further bites of fun, drama and adventure at facebook.com/cyclechauffeurnz

Remember this givealittle page and these updates will close on April 6th. Until then, enjoy the ride, keep sharing our story and cause, and let your friends know they can still climb on board and make a donation. :)

Woop, woop! A downhill blast of generosity has pulled us up to our fundraising target today. Huge thanks to all of you who reached into your bank accounts, and put your money where our hearts are. The staff team & boys & girls in Stepping Stone Trusts Carolyn Reid Service will be lit up with gratitude.

Celebrate with us. Enjoy a highlights package from day 1 of our trans-alpine ride - Kumara Beach to Arthurs Pass Village at facebook.com/cyclechauffeurnz This should settle forever the question of who pedaled the fastest across the Island! (It's amazing what you can do with a little bit of video editing Josh!

This page will stay open until April 6 so share the link after you've viewed the drama and fun and keep encouraging your friends to give-a-little. All further gifts will be invested in the children we've pumped the pedals for.

  • It's for the Children

As we rode into Christchurch on Sunday afternoon a young mother pulled up beside us in a car and called out, "I have bi-polar disorder and I really respect what your guys are doing." I don't know if she was a young mum but I suspect she may have been. "God bless you - kia kaha." I called back. Our ride has been all about supporting children (and families) affected by parental mental illness. Generous public support has seen us pedal very close to our fundraising target. Donations reached $8300 on our givealittle page today. That's flippin awesome! Over the next few days we'll pop up a few photos and video clips of the expedition for you to enjoy. Meanwhile, we'll pedal on together and get this fundraising over the line.

  • We Did It!

      26 March 2018

We did it!! The first trans-alpine crossing in a cycle rickshaw. 250 kgs over 2500 metres covering 250 kms over 2 days. Seven awesome blokes worked together to get us to the finish line at New Brighton Sunday afternoon about 3.30pm. Steve and Alistair dug in as cycle safety escorts back and front for Josh and I on the Rickshaw. Gideon, Doug and Malcolm ran logistics, support and kai times! Injury setbacks, equipment failure, rain, accidents and fatigue set us back and at times threatened to derail our mission, but we pulled thru. Huge thanks to everyone who has supported and given $$$ to help the kids in Stepping Stone's Caroline Reid Service. $7000 plus so far. Wait up tho. The journeys not over. During the next week I'll be posting pics and clips of the expedition. Stay tuned for the drama and fun as we push on to reach our $10000. Please keep sharing our story and success and encourage the peeps in your world to jump in and make a donation. Together we can do this. :) Please note... Iron Legs Steve Muir is absent from this finish line photo. He pedaled off home before we got our act together to take it!!

Looks like we'll arrive at New Brighton War Memorial sometime between 3 and 4pm. Currently rolling down South Eyre Rd at a steady 19kph. Josh is looking strong on the pedals. I'm back in the saddle in 30mins. So good to see the sun!

Made it to Castle Hill Village in the dark! 13 hours of solid leg work! We're pumped about nailing day 1 but super concious tomorrow will have its own surprise challenges menu! Big ups to Cedric the bus driver who stopped and let us on board to take up a collection! Thanks to all the passengers and passersby who rustled up some dollars. Help bring us home tomorrow folks. We can hit the ten grand target.

  • Making Tracks

      23 March 2018
    Main image

Hi friends... we've borrowed a tracker for the ride...you should be able to track our detailed progress by logging onto our GPS Spot Tracker site any time from 7.30am tomorrow

    https://trackme.kiwi/event/unlistedview/337

You should get a screen showing where we are, labelled "Blylethen"

When you click on the icon, select "Path" to show our route.

Each point is meant to be every 10 minutes, but sometimes a lack of satellites means there are bigger gaps.

It is not foolproof, so if you see no progress DO NOT panic. It will most likely be poor satellite coverage, human error or tech failure. :)

  • Wet, wet, wet

It's been raining cats & dogs here in Christchurch today. The southerly wind has whistled up some chilly air - compliments of the South Pole! Tomorrow avo we strap the rickshaw & bikes onto the trailer and head for the West Coast. NZ Met Service are currently forecasting rain there tomorrow & Saturday. Here's hoping it's not cuzzies of the kitties & canines that fell out of the sky in Otautahi today. We're aiming for a dawn launch from Kumara beach on Saturday - come, rain, hail or shine. Kia ora to all you peeps who are cheering for us in the background and helping us raise the funds for Stepping Stone. Let's keep it rolling together.

  • The Magnificent Seven

Our team now has seven crazy dudes in it! Here we are (minus Doug McNeill) checking out our safety & promo signage. Big thanks to Signwise Christchurch for helping us keep our butts safe on the road. Spot the trailer sign on Alistair's bike and the big wind breaker on Steves!! Those boys will be digging deep 100 metres back & front of the rickshaw and alerting traffic. We like to think we'll be flying in formation! That's when we're not crawling of course. You can track us here over the weekend or on the Facebook link below.

  • My Tree of Hope

      18 March 2018
    Main image

An old gum stump in a neighbourhood street has become the nurturing place for a strong new silver birch. I often go and sit under its branches to draw strength from its voice and to renew my confidence in the possibilities of a better future. I'm also hoping the old trunks (or is that legs in trunks!) that will push the pedals on our ride next weekend will raise the $10000 Stepping Stone need to keep nurturing hope for the precious children in the Caroline Reid service. Together we can help these boys and girls become trees of hope.

Just fitted new tires and brake pads to our big rig in readiness for the journey. They smell and taste gooood! Also test fitting the promo and safety signage which is looking nice and bright. A shout out to Peter Land & the crew at SIGNWISE Christchurch who produced the signs and are helping support our ride.

  • Coping with injuries

      12 March 2018
    Main image

I smacked into a car a few weeks ago on my trusty old road bike and copped a few cuts and bruises. My right knee swelled up like a balloon. That's me iced up and smiling through the pain the evening after the accident! I reluctantly buttoned off the training for a week until the swelling died back and then pushed the kms and hill work back up again. The knee is still not 100% however so I'm nursing it a tad. Josh and I and the lads are determined to nail this challenge even if we have to limp in to Brighton Beach on Sunday 25th! Keep that support trucking in people - it helps us drag our butts out of bed at 5 am for training!

Here's the Coast2Coast Rickshaw Charity Ride team. We met tonight to gear up our planning. Lots of excitement in the group. We know we have a massive challenge ahead tho. Safely pedaling the cyclists equivalent of a Mac Truck over the passes. It's definitely gonna be a team effort. We're gonna give it our very best shot. Team left to right: Alastair Brown - Rear safety cyclist, Josh Geddes - Rickshaw wallah, Sean Pawson (crouching) - Rickshaw Wallah, Gideon Pieters - Support Crew, Malcolm Gooch - Support Crew. Absent: Steve Muir (Front safety cyclist) and one yet to be added support team member. Thanks heaps to all those generous givers out there. We've hit our first $1000. Keep those donations going friends.

Drop some $$$ on the donate now button & put more energy in our legs :)
