The month of March continues & Cirque Du Sore Legs keeps the exercising up! Tanya kayaked to Kaipupu Point Bird Sanctuary on Sunday, hiked around the Sanctuary & then kayaked back to Picton. No Kiwi spotted on her hike today nesting in the Penguin boxes on the Island though, but 3 friendly seals were guarding her Kayak when she returned to the jetty. There is a magic view of the Queen Charlotte Sound from the Sanctuary :)

  • Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter Hangar visit

      22 March 2023
    Main image

On Friday the Nelson team were lucky enough to visit the Hangar & chat to the team on roster that day. Our Blenheim team dialled in & for all of us it was a real eye opener & great to see how the funds we are raising can really help this service & the lives they save. No donation is too small or big & funds often go to life saving equipment which can be the difference between life & death.

Please donate & support this life saving service, you never know when you or one of your loved ones may need this service.

On a stunning Wellington Day Kent enjoyed the Whitireia Walk Track. Through farmland along the coastline between Onehunga Bay and Te Onepoto Bay, he saw stunning views of Mana Island and accross to the South Island. With this walk, Kent added another 7km's to the tally and well and truly earn't a few beers at the Cricket on Sunday arvo.

  • Ticked off Mt Tape

      20 March 2023

Olivia put her legs to the test this weekend tackling Mt Tapuae-o-uenuku, the highest mountain in NZ outside of the Southern Alps. The Gruelling 46km, with 2850 metres of elevation has left her in serious need of a massage. The view from the top after 10.5 hours of climbing and 67 river crossings was exceptional, she could see you folks over in Nelson and even Geoff Brown eating his Sunday breakfast.

She completed the 13km race up & down & back up the Centre of NZ with nearly 400m of elevation in the race. "Those stairs on the last climb up were a killer, but it made the finish all the more sweeter" she said.

Olivia tackled Mount Doom & the Tongariro Alpine Crossing in the National Park last weekend. Starting at 6am with 6 friends, they walked for 6 hours up the devils staircase, through the crater and down the scree slopes to finish with 20kms to add to Olivia's March km count. Such a beautiful part of NZ with amazingly diverse terrain, which she highly recommends to everyone.

  • 50 waves in a day!

      13 March 2023
    Main image

Felix has been spending time at a popular surf break Mangamaunu, located along the coast on State Highway 1 north of Kaikōura township. He surfed 50 waves in one day in support of the 50k a Day Challenge for the rescue helicopter.

He said "Each year the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter responds to over 500 missions throughout the Nelson, Tasman, Marlborough and Buller regions. With Nelson & Blenheim being surrounded by three National Parks, alpine peaks, numerous world class mountain bike tracks, a ski field within driving distance and the beautiful coastal waters which surround us, the rescue helicopter proves to be a vital service within the community no matter what picturesque place you find yourself in".
